Who drives more safely, men or women?

76% of the women interviewed said that women drive more safely than men. In comparison, 31% of the men surveyed said that women drive more safely. Similarly, 69% of the men interviewed said that men drive more safely than women; 25% of the women interviewed said that men drive more safely.



How often do you experience "road rage?"

Overall, close to two-thirds of the respondents said they rarely or never experienced "road rage." However, when people do experience it, there is apparently no significance between males and females. Maybe Americans are driving more safely into the next century.

Looks like a little over half (56%) of Americans are occasionally speeding to their next destination, especially men (60%) more so than women (53%).

A majority of Americans (66%) appear to be concentrating on the road. However, men were more likely to eat while driving (22%) while women were more apt to talk on the phone (16%) behind the wheel.

Mario Andretti was the preferred choice for both males (30%) and females (38%), while Cindy Crawford (not surprisingly) was chosen by 26% of males and a mere 1% of female respondents. It appears that Americans favor sports, beauty and muscles over politics these days.

In general, respondents tended to name the state in which they reside as the state with the worst drivers. The exception was residents from New York State -- most said that other states had the worst drivers!

Americans think of themselves as average, fair drivers (47%), with men (18%) more likely to rate themselves as moderately aggressive than were women (7%). There was very little difference between men and women in the other driver-type categories.

We always knew it, but the survey confirms it. While overall respondents (10%) said they "never" asked for directions, males were twice as likely to answer "never" then females (M 14% F 7%).



Have you ever talked yourself out of a traffic ticket?

The survey revealed that of those "fast talkers" on the American roads, there is no significant difference between males and females when it comes to sweet talking an officer.



Do you change your travel route based on radio traffic reports?

Americans generally prefer to stick with their usual routes -- even if a traffic report indicates a potential trouble spot. However, more than half of the respondents (31% Y + 25% S) said they have occasionally changed that route.



If you could go back in time in the 20th century, who would you choose for your tour guide?

Men surveyed clearly wanted a male tour guide with 43% of them requesting Will Rogers and 29% choosing Albert Einstein as their guide. Women also preferred a guide of their own gender as Eleanor Roosevelt (33%) was clearly their number one tour guide pick for the century.
