Even before his historic meeting with Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone realized the marketing potential of racing. He was among the first people in the country to own a rubber-tired racing buggy from England, and soon he began competing in hotly contested street races. He used his wins to showcase the latest innovations in rubber tires, his own personal daring, and his eye for quality and performance. Many of the promotional methods he used then are still reflected in the way Firestone promotes tires today.
