In August 1900, the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company was founded in Akron, Ohio. The capital stock was only $50,000. Two years later, Harvey Firestone, Jr., the founder's four-year old son, was lifted in the air to pull an engine switch that put the first Firestone factory in motion.
