Straight-sided pneumatic tires could be changed in a matter of minutes, a significant improvement over the wrench. The straight sides also allowed for more air capacity, delivering more air cushion to the passenger and more tire to the road. Firestone shared this pneumatic technology with Ford, and 2,000 sets of these tires were delivered to The Ford Motor Company. It was the largest tire order ever placed at that time, and the turning point for Firestone.
